Lawrence sets new CCCC shot put record

LINCOLN, Neb. — The Cloud County Community College men's and women's track and field team opened its indoor season at the University of Nebraska Graduate Classic Friday and Saturday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
Freshman Courtney Lawrence recorded a first-place finish for the Cloud County men in the shot put with a school record toss of 57-8 ¼. That broke the previous record of 57-7 set by Vashon McCarthy in 2018.
Daniel Cope threw 48-7 ¼ to place fourth.
Chanler Taylor went 44-3/4 to place second for the Thunderbirds in the triple jump.
Santino Kenyi finished second in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:15.72.
Andres Hernandez ran 51.15 to place fourth in the 400-meter dash.
Johan Cobena finished sixth in the heptathlon with 4,026 points.
Richard Newman and Andrew Betton tied for seventh place in the high jump by clearing 6-4 ¼.
Newman was also eighth in the long jump with a leap of 21-10 ¼.
Cloud County's 4x400 relay team of Hernandes, Wayde Roman, Davit Lukava and Nevan Tebb-Lolar finished seventh in 3:26.65.
The Cloud County women picked up three event wins in the meet.
Freshman Mercy Ntia-Obong ran 7.47 to win the 60-meter dash for the T-Birds. That is the fastest time in the NJCAA this season.
Grace Chinonyelum won the long jump with a leap of 19-6. Jacqueline Pokuaah tied for second with a best of 19-4.
Maryse Mbenoun scored 3,166 points to place first in the pentathlon. She was also fourth in the 600-meter dash in 1:41.97.
Pokuaah finished second in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.74. Aliya Hatton was fourth in 8.93 and Keiana Newman was eighth in 9.48.
Semaj McGhee went 5-1 to place sixth in the high jump.
Sophie Jebose placed eighth in the triple jump with a leap of 33-8.
