Miller, Vines capture tournament titles

BELOIT — Keyan Miller and Daniel Vines recorded first-place finishes for the Concordia High School wrestling team in the Beloit Invitational that finished up Saturday.
Miller, a senior, went 3-0 on his way to placing first in the 182-pound class.
Vines, a junior, won all three of his matches in finishing first in the 126-pound class.
Concordia had five wrestlers place in the top six in their respective weight classes.
The Panthers scored 98 points and finished sixth as a team.
Hoxie won the tournament with 216 points. Blue Valley Southwest was second with 194.5 and Clay Center was third with 149.
Miller, who is 27-1 this season, received a bye in the opening round. He squeezed out a 2-1 win over Conner Dinkel, Hill City, in the quarterfinals and defeated Triston Vande Velde, Silver Lake, 10-5 in the semifinals.
Advancing to the championship match, Miller won a 6-3 decision over Tucker Jackson, Clay Center.
Vines (26-1) also received a bye in the opening round. He defeated Carter Trimble 2-0 in the quarterfinals and pinned Carter Underhill, Hill City, in 1:48 in the semifinals.
In the championship match, Vines won a 12-4 major decision over Carson Ochs, Hoxie.
Concordia had Logan Leiszler place third in the 120-pound class.
Christian Belden placed fifth in the 106-pound class and Ashton Dooley was sixth in the 113-pound class.
Belden (25-3) pinned Alexander Hamel, Hill City, in 25 seconds and Kash Schiltz, Hoxie, in 1:23.
Dawsen Degood, Colby, won an 8-2 decision over Belden in the semifinals.
Belden lost by technical fall, 18-1, to Chase Johnson, Minneapolis, in the consolation semifinals. He then pinned Coe Neilson, Beloit, in the fifth-place match.
Dooley received a bye in the first round. He was pinned by Tate Weimer, Hoxie, in the quarterfinals.
In the consolation bracket, Dooley pinned Lucas Skouse, Blue Valley Southwest. He was beaten 9-2 by Hayden Kalivoda, Clay Center, in the consolation semifinals and then lost a 9-0 major decision to Josiah Knoll, Minneapolis, in the fifth-place match.
Nathan Brown, 170 pounds, picked up two wins in the tournament for Concordia.
Drew Sterrett, 132 pounds; Toby Wahlmeier, 152 pounds; and Caleb Hanson, 160 pounds, recorded one win each for the Panthers.
