Ndungu sets CCCC school record in 1,500

LAWRENCE — Sophomore Lucy Ndungu cruised to a new Cloud County Community College school record on her way to placing second in the 1,500-meter run at the University of Kansas Rock Chalk Classic Saturday at Rock Chalk Park.
Ndungu turned in a time of 4:38.92. That betters the old Cloud County school mark of 4:43.42 set in 1995 by Tyshema Brown.
The Cloud County women also had Miracle Thompson place second in the 100-meter hurdles in 13.53.
Vanessa Mercera went 5-5 to place second in the high jump for the Thunderbirds. Shackala Henry tied  for seventh by clearing 5-3.
The Cloud County men got a pair of first-place finishes.
Hassan Abidi won the 800-meter run with a time of 1:52.56. Raziel Patton was second in 1:52.73.
Oageng Mdlela went 48-4 ¾ to place first in the triple jump for the T-Birds.
Vincent Ugwoke threw 182-5 to place second in the discus.
Kidus Misgina placed second in the 1,500-meter run in 3:52.44. Siyabonga Mokgothu was seventh in 3:57.21.
Also placing seventh was Brandon Hutchinson in the javelin with a toss of 169-7.
Ben Okraska tied for seventh in the pole vault by making 14-6 ¼.
Leroy Kamau, Emmanuel Wanga, Shadrick Tansi and Jonathan Dende ran 3:16.99 to finish fifth in the 4x400 relay. Abidi, Quwayne Reid, Mason Schurr and Daniel Siaffa placed sixth in 3:17.49.
Kamau, Wanga, Tansi and Emmanuel Anis finished sixth in the 4x100 relay in 41.60.
