Niehues leads Panthers to second-place finish

Led by freshman Mya Niehues, the Concordia High School golf team placed second in the invitational tournament it hosted Tuesday at Concordia Golf & Wellness.
Niehues, playing in her first varsity tournament, shot a 44 to place third individually.
Concordia posted a team score of 218.
Wamego, the defending Class 4A state champion, won the nine-hole tournament with a 193. Clay Center finished third with a 227.
“Our varsity had a good day. We got second among our league peers, and I was happy to see Mya come out and place third,” Concordia coach Gene Rundus said.
Senior Brecklynn Bonner shot a 53 and placed sixth individually for Concordia.
“Brecklynn Bonner followed up her team-leading effort from regionals last year by shooting 53 and medaling sixth,” Rundus said.
Madalyn Bowers, a freshman, shot a 60 for Concordia.
Senior Emma Herman rounded out the top four for the Panthers with a 61.
Concordia had sophomore Anna Widen shoot a 68 and senior Kaitlyn Nelson card a 69.
Addison Douglas, the defending 4A individual champion from Wamego, shot an even par 34 to earn medalist honors in the tournament.
Playing a shortened course, Concordia freshman Breckyn Reynolds finished first in the junior varsity competition with a 50.
Sophomore Samantha McManus finished second for the Panthers with a 55.
Concordia had freshman Brexlynn Koch and sophomore Elora Henderson tie for third at 57.
Freshman Peyton Pruser shot 63 and junior Katelyn Reedy shot 70.
