Niehues is sixth in Salina Central tourney

SALINA — Concordia High School freshman Mya Niehues recorded a top 10 finish in the Salina Central Invitational golf tournament Tuesday at the Salina Municipal Golf Course.
Niehues carded an 83 to place sixth in the tournament for the Panthers.
Concordia posted a score of 420 to finish eighth as a team.
Winfield won the team title with a 345. McPherson was second with a 356 and Manhattan was third with a 357.
Concordia had senior Brecklynn Bonner shoot a 109.
Junior Anna Widen carded a 111 for Concordia.
Emma Herman, a senior, rounded out the top four for Concordia with a 117.
Freshman Madalyn Bowers finished with a 135 for the Panthers.
“The girls got some good experience today. We know we left some strokes out there, but we were glad to get a full 18 holes in,” Concordia coach Gene Rundus said. “We weren't far off from a top-five finish, so we will work our game Wednesday at practice and tee it up again at Wamego on Thursday.”
Newton freshman Naomi Koontz shot an even par 70 to earn medalist honors in the tournament.
