Panther wrestlers place second in Corner Classic

HOISINGTON — Concordia had eight wrestlers place in the top three in their respective weight classes on its way to a second-place team finish in the Hoisington Corner Classic on Friday.
Concordia scored 174.5 points in the tournament.
Great Bend captured the team title with 187 points. Hoisington was third with 113.
Christian Belden, 106 pounds; Daniel Vines, 126 pounds; Nathan Brown, 170 pounds; Keyan Miller, 182 pounds; and Tracer Murdock, 195 pounds, recorded first-place finishes for Concordia.
Logan Leiszler, 120 pounds; Easton Swihart, 138 pounds; Toby Wahlmeier, 152 pounds; and Caleb Hanson, 160 pounds, finished third for the Panthers.
Belden, who is 13-0 this season, pinned Nolan Jacobs, Hoisington, in 55 seconds and Jai-Sean George, Larned, in 42 seconds on his way to placing first.
Vines (12-1) pinned Maddex Harmon, Great Bend, in 1:11 and pinned JJ Hartshorn, Great Bend, in 51 seconds. He suffered his first loss of the season to Josiah Ball, Hoisington, 6-4 in sudden victory, and then won a 9-6 decision over Kaden Spragis, Great Bend, before defeating Ball in a rematch 3-0 in the championship match.
Brown, now 13-0 this season, won four straight matches. He pinned Nathan Campbell, Great Bend, in 37 seconds; pinned Chance Unruh, Cimarron, in 48 seconds; pinned Aidan Davidson, Great Bend, in the second period; and pinned Alex Sefried, Cimarron, in the second period.
Miller (13-1) won all five of his matches by fall. He pinned Aiden Crow, Cimarron, in 43 seconds; pinned Caden Wilkens, Cimarron, in 17 seconds; pinned Jarrett Bogner, Cimarron, in 1:02; pinned Ryan Palacios, Holcomb, in 37 seconds; and pinned Matthew Johnson, Great Bend, in 1:53.
Murdock (12-4) went 5-0 with five pins. He pinned Owen Kaiser, Great Bend, in 36 seconds; pinned Alexis Garcia, Stafford, in 1:28; pinned Tamari Hower, Hoisington, in 2:20; pinned Andrew Bogner, Cimarron, in the second period; and then pinned Brody Schnoebelen, Great Bend, in 55 seconds.
Leiszler lost his opening match by fall to Eastin Redetzke, Hoisington. He pinned Jameson Smith, Larned; pinned Jonathan Lira, Great Bend; lost by fall to Avery Wolf, Great Bend; and pinned Skyler Hubbard, Liberal, in 17 seconds.
Swihart was pinned by Deryk Yott, Hoisington, in the first round. He pinned Logan Sefried, Cimarron; pinned Preston Roat, Hoisington; and then lost by fall to Wyatt Weber, Great Bend.
Wahlmeier pinned Kayden Kennon, Hoisington, in 14 seconds; pinned Abe Llanas, Stafford; lost by fall to Ethan Boles, Eureka; and then pinned Llanas again in the third-place match.
Hanson lost by fall to Vaiden Weinrich, Great Bend; pinned Jacob Colglazier, Larned; lost a 16-5 major decision to Kolby Johnson, Holcomb; and then won by forfeit over Zach Hilton, Eureka, in the third-place match.
Ashton Dooley, 113 pounds, won his first two matches and finished 2-3 to place fourth for Concordia.
Drew Sterrett, after suffering two losses, posted three consecutive wins to finish fifth in the 132-pound class.
Colby Trost, 145 pounds, picked up two wins and finished sixth.
Concordia's Teggan Workman won three of four matches and placed second in the girls' 138-pound class.
