Panthers’ season ends with pair of losses to Tigers

The Concordia High School baseball team's season came to a close with a pair of losses to Clay Center in a North Central Kansas League doubleheader Tuesday at the Concordia Sports Complex.
Clay Center downed Concordia 17-3 in five innings in game one and won the second game, 10-3.
Concordia finished up 2-15 overall and 0-7 in league play.
The Panthers are in the Class 4A West Regional.
The top 16 of the 18 teams in the West advance to postseason play.
Concordia finished 17th.
Clay Center, 13-3 overall and 5-3 in the league, got out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning in game one.
Stryker Hake hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first, and the Panthers trailed 5-1.
Two runs in the second inning gave the Tigers a 7-1 advantage.
Concordia made it a 7-3 game with two runs in the bottom of the third inning.
Joey Henderson led off with a single and Hake walked.
Dalton Owen singled to drive in Henderson.
Hake scored on a base hit by Maddox Frey.
Sending 13 batters to the plate, Clay Center erupted for nine runs on three hits, three walks and three hit batters.
The Tigers added one run in the fifth inning to make it 17-3.
Nathan Brown allowed six runs, five earned, on two hits, struck out one and walked four in one inning in suffering the loss.
Owen, Shelby Giersch and Logan Leiszler pitched in relief.
Keegun Beims had two hits for the Panthers.
Concordia would score first in the second game when Henderson singled, stole second, advanced to third on a ground ball and stole home in the first inning.
Clay Center put up three runs in the top of the second inning and would not trail again.
Scoring four runs in the top of the third inning, the Tigers made it a 7-1 game.
Henderson singled and scored when Payton Breese walked with the bases loaded in the bottom of the third inning, and Concordia trailed 7-2.
Clay Center upped the lead to 10-2 with three runs in the fifth inning.
Concordia added one run in the sixth.
Breese singled and scored on an error.
Caleb Hanson pitched two and two-thirds innings in taking the loss. He allowed seven runs, three earned, on five hits, struck out four and walked four.
Hake threw two and a third innings and Henderson worked two innings.
Henderson had three hits in four at bats and scored two runs.
Hake had two hits.
