Panthers go 1-4 in SE of Saline tourney

GYPSUM — Recording a win over North Central Kansas League rival Abilene, the Concordia High School volleyball team finished 1-4 in the Southeast of Saline Invitational on Saturday.
Host Southeast of Saline downed Concordia in the opening match of pool play, 25-20, 25-23.
Taylor McDaniel had six kills and eight digs for Concordia.
Carlie Carlgren also had six kills as well as six digs and four service points.
Hanna Acree finished with 13 digs and three service points for the Panthers.
Kinsleigh Bethune had six digs and seven service points and Hattie Blackwood had six digs and five service points.
Concordia fell to Hillsboro, the number one ranked team in Class 3A, 25-17, 25-12.
Callie Parker led the Panthers with seven kills and also had three blocks.
Shaelin Giersch added four kills.
Blackwood had nine digs and Acree had five digs and five service points.
In the final round of pool play, the Panthers were beaten 25-18, 25-17 by Circle.
Carlgren had seven kills and eight digs in the match.
Parker added six kills.
Giersch had five kills and two blocks.
Blackwood had seven digs and Acree had six digs.
Moving into the consolation bracket, the Panthers knocked off Abilene in straight sets, 25-19, 26-19.
Carlgren led Concordia with 12 kills and 15 digs.
McDaniel had seven kills, nine digs and five service points.
Acree finished with 14 digs and four service points.
Blackwood had seven digs.
Concordia was then beaten in three sets by Salina South, 26-24, 24-26, 25-23.
McDaniel had 11 kills, 11 digs and four service points for the Panthers.
Carlgren had 10 kills and 17 digs.
Parker had six kills, six service points and three blocks.
Kenlee Williams added four kills and three blocks.
Giersch also had four kills and six service points.
Blackwood had 14 digs, 19 service points and three kills.
Acree had 25 digs.
Concordia will play at home for the first time when it hosts Marysville for a pair of league matches on September 22.
