Panthers place fifth in Abilene Invitational

ABILENE — With just a number one singles player and a number two doubles team competing, the Concordia High School tennis team placed fifth in the Abilene Invitational on Tuesday.
Concordia scored 14 points in the tournament.
Abilene won the team title with 41 points. Hays was second with 31 and Clay Center was third with 20.
Joshua Wood finished fourth in number one singles for Concordia.
Wood defeated RJ Vopat, Abilene, 8-3 in the opening round. He lost 8-4 to Colin Clark, Hays, and 8-3 to Ian Woolridge, Chapman.
Brett Rosenbaum and Andrew Henderson placed second in number two doubles for the Panthers. They suffered a narrow 8-7 (7-5) loss to Rudhra Bhakta and Tyler Conley, Ellsworth; downed Jack Scoby and Logan Schmidt, Hays, 8-4; and were beaten 8-0 by Nick Holmes and Josie Parks, Abilene.
The Concordia junior varsity competed in the Salina Central Invitational on Monday.
Keigan Workman, playing number one singles for Concordia, lost to Anderson Arnold, Manhattan, 8-0; defeated Sam Alam, Sacred Heart, 6-5; and lost to Carter Weber, Salina Central, 6-3.
In number one doubles, Concordia's Colton Berk and Kaedyn Newton lost 8-1 to Vinny Sun and Beckam Hough, Manhattan; 6-1 to Julian Torres and Izeyiah Rodriguez, Sacred Heart; and 6-3 to Landon Woelhof and Jose Garcia, Salina South.
Qwinter Thrash, playing number two singles, defeated Camden Schneider, Buhler, 8-5; lost to Cameron Cook, Maize South, 8-0; and lost to Schneider in a rematch, 6-0.
