Panthers place second in tourney

CLEARWATER — The Concordia High School wrestling team had eight wrestlers place in the top four on its way to a second-place finish in the Clearwater Invitational on Saturday.
Concordia scored 162 points in the tournament.
Augusta captured the tournament title with 293 points. Independence was third in the 11-team field with 147 points.
Concordia had Daniel Vines, 126 pounds, and Keyan Miller, 182 pounds, place first in the tournament.
Vines (22-1) received a bye in the first round. He won a 5-3 decision over Cooper Anderson, Independence, in the semifinals and then pinned Justin Linn, Augusta, in 1:29 in the championship match.
Miller (23-1) opened with a 6-2 win over Thomas Johnson, Augusta. He pinned Alec Beasley, Clearwater; pinned Dalton Slaughter, Pratt, in 1:04; and then pinned Keller McNeil, Maize, in 23 seconds to finish 4-0.
Christian Belden, 106 pounds; Logan Leiszler, 120 pounds; and Tracer Murdock, 195 pounds, placed second.
Belden (21-1) pinned Jack Herschberger, Wichita Trinity, in 1:07 in his opening match. He pinned Brody Harman, Clearwater, in 47 seconds in the semifinals.
Advancing into the title match, Belden suffered his first defeat of the season when he was pinned by unbeaten Keith Sanders, Independence.
Leiszler (16-7) went 3-1 on his way to a second-place finish. He pinned Dylan Hanna, Clearwater, in 29 seconds; pinned Addrick Nelson, Nickerson, in 1:12; pinned Sid Shipman, Derby, in 23 seconds; and lost by fall to Marcus Terry, Augusta.
Murdock (21-5) received a bye in the first round. He pinned Brandon Orantes, Pratt, in the quarterfinals and won by technical fall, 18-3, over Isaiah Melugin, Independence, in the semifinals.
Garrett Davis, Augusta, won by technical fall, 17-0, over Murdock in the finals.
Drew Sterrett, 132 pounds; Easton Swihart, 138 pounds; and Nathan Brown, 170 pounds, placed fourth  in the tournament for Concordia.
Sterrett (12-11) received a bye in the first round. He pinned Cooper Shinkle, Derby, in the quarterfinals and then lost by technical fall, 17-2, to Cannon Carey, Augusta, in the semifinals.
In the consolation semifinals, Sterrett pinned David Diaz, Chaparral. He then lost 6-1 to Taye Wilson, Pratt, in the third-place match.
After receiving a bye, Swihart (16-8) pinned Justin Moritz, Chaparral, in 1:00. He lost by fall to Grady Fox, Augusta, in the semifinals, pinned Ethan Stimatze, Pratt, in 18 seconds in the consolation semifinals and lost a narrow 3-2 decision to Saxton Renfro, Independence, in the third-place match.
Brown (20-3) went 2-2 on his way to placing fourth. He pinned Bryson Snell, Clearwater, in 50 seconds; defeated Gabe Kant, Augusta, 5-3; lost 3-1 to Andy Huynh, Mulvane; and lost 14-8 to Gunar Allen, Independence.
In the girls' division of the tournament, Concordia's Teggan Workman placed fifth in the 138-143-pound class.
Workman pinned Dakotah Whitt, Douglass; lost by fall to Kylie Blake, Clearwater; pinned Emma Otsuka, Augusta; and lost by fall to Livia Swift, Pratt.
In the fifth-place match, Workman pinned Emmaline Primrose, Pratt.
