Panthers suffer pair of league losses to Red Raiders

Opening North Central Kansas League play at home, the Concordia High School baseball team suffered two losses to the Wamego Red Raiders in a doubleheader Tuesday at the Concordia Sports Complex.
Wamego out-slugged Concordia 19-12 in game one and then edged the Panthers 4-3 in game two.
Sending 10 batters to the plate, the Red Raiders put up six runs in the top of the first inning in game one.
Concordia (4-4) cut the deficit in half with three runs in the bottom of the inning.
Joey Henderson led off with a walk and Stryker Hake singled with one out.
Keegun Beims followed with a three-run home run.
Wamego scored six runs in the top of the second inning, and led 12-3.
A run in the top of the third inning put the Red Raiders up 13-3.
Scoring three runs in the bottom of the third left Concordia trailing 13-6.
Maddox Frey singled and scored on a triple by Stryker Hake.
Beims walked and Payton Breese singled home a run.
A base hit by Caleb Hanson got Beims home.
Wamego put up three more runs in the top of the fourth inning, and led 16-6.
Henderson doubled and scored on a single by Hake, and Frey walked and got home on an error in the bottom of the fourth inning as the Panthers made it a 16-8 game.
Frey singled home a run for Concordia in the fifth inning.
Wamego extended the lead to 19-9 with three runs in the top of the sixth inning.
Breese walked and scored on a triple by Hanson in the bottom of the sixth.
Concordia added two more runs in the seventh.
Frey led off with a single and scored on a triple by Hake.
Beims singled to drive in Hake.
Braeden Primeaux took the loss. He gave up 12 runs, just five earned, on nine hits, struck out two and walked two.
Hanson allowed seven runs, five earned, on five hits, struck out six and walked three in five innings.
Concordia pounded out 19 hits in the game.
Hake had four hits in five at bats, drove in three runs and scored three.
Beims was 3-for-4 with four runs batted in and two runs scored.
Hanson had four hits and knocked in two runs.
Frey was 3-for-4 with three runs scored.
Primeaux had two hits.
Wamego took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning in game two.
Henderson led off the bottom of the first with a walk. He stole second and scored on a one-out triple by Hake to tie the game.
Consecutive strikeouts left Hake stranded at third.
Concordia left seven baserunners stranded in the game.
Wamego reclaimed the lead at 3-1 with two runs in the second inning.
Concordia closed the gap to 3-2 with a run in the fifth inning.
Henderson walked with one out and scored on an error.
Scoring a run in the top of the sixth inning, Wamego led 4-2.
Hanson walked with one out in the bottom of the sixth and Dustin Sterrett doubled to get him home and make it 4-3.
Still trailing by a run in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Panthers had Hake walk with two out.
A strikeout ended the game.
Frey pitched five and two-thirds innings and surrendered four runs on six hits, struck out five and walked seven in taking the loss.
Hake pitched one and a third scoreless innings. He struck out two and walked one.
Concordia was limited to three hits.
The Panthers are off a week before hosting Chapman next Tuesday.
