Panthers win in overtime

A game that looked evenly matched on paper, played out that way on the court.
The Concordia High School Panthers and the Rose Hill High School Rockets battled to a 39-39 tie through four quarters.
Concordia, knocking down 10 of 12 free throws, outscored Rose Hill 12-5 in overtime to pull out a 51-44 victory in the opening round of the Class 4A sub-state tournament, February 28 in the Concordia Junior-Senior High School gymnasium.
"I am very proud of our kids. They came through and made plays when we needed to," Concordia coach Derek Holmes said.
The Panthers and the Rockets were both 12-8 heading into the game. 
Concordia was seeded eighth in the West division of 4A and Rose Hill was ninth.
The two teams locked up in a tight battle throughout regulation play.
Rose Hill had a 12-8 lead on Concordia after one quarter of play.
Chane Parker scored the first four points of the second period to pull the Panthers even with the Rockets at 12-12.
Parker scored 12 of his 15 points and pulled down all 12 of his rebounds in the first half.
"Chane was a beast inside and played great," Holmes said.
A three-point shot by Hunter Roy and a jumper by Jace Evans gave Rose Hill a 17-12 advantage.
Concordia got back within a point, 19-18.
Zander Ford hit a three in the final second of the first half to put the Rockets up 22-18.
Payton Breese made Concordia's first three, 52 seconds into the second half, to make it 22-21.
Rose Hill used a 7-2 spurt to take its biggest lead at 39-23.
Trailing 33-28 in the fourth quarter, the Panthers went on a 10-2 run to take a 38-35 lead.
Evans scored to get Rose Hill within a point, 38-37.
Breese connected on one of two free throws, and Concordia led 39-37 with 1:25 to play.
Cooper Nace drove to the basket, scored and was fouled.
Nace missed the free throw that would have given Rose Hill the lead back.
The Rockets missed all seven of their free throws in the game.
Concordia held the ball for a final shot, but a three-point attempt by Peyton Retter was off the mark as time expired, and the game went to overtime.
Joey Henderson scored the first three points of the extra period to give Concordia a 42-39 lead.
Rose Hill got a steal and layup by Jace Evans to get Rose Hill within a point, 42-41.
The Panthers connected on 9 of 10 free throws in a span of 1:11 to put the game out of reach, 51-41.
"We did a good job in the end in our delay game getting fouled and making free throws," Holmes said.
Henderson, who was 8 of 12 from the free throw line, scored 18 points for Concordia.
Payton Breese added 12 points for the Panthers.
Nace led Rose Hill with 15 points. Evans scored 11 points and Ford added 10.
