Primeaux tosses shutout, Panthers split with Abilene

Braeden Primeaux tossed a five-hit shutout as the Concordia High School baseball team slipped past Abilene 1-0 in the first game of a North Central Kansas League doubleheader Tuesday at the Concordia Sports Complex.
Concordia, playing at home for the final time in the regular season, dropped the second game of the twinbill 7-3 and is now 8-6 overall and 3-3 in league play.
Primeaux struck out four and walked two in blanking Abilene in the opening game.
“Our defense played exceptional behind him (Primeaux) and he let them work. He trusted his defense,” Concordia coach Brandt Hutchinson said. “And something that probably doesn't get recognized enough, Joey Henderson called a great game behind the plate.”
Abilene starter Stocton Timbrook held Concordia scoreless on one hit over the first three innings.
The Panthers scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Payton Breese singled with one out and stole second.
Primeaux aided his own cause by doubling to drive in Breese.
Concordia was limited to just three hits in the game.
Abilene, also 8-6 overall and 3-3 in the NCKL, jumped on Concordia with four runs in the first inning of game two.
Scoreless against Abilene starter Kyson Becker through three innings, the Panthers pushed across one run in the bottom of the fourth.
Caleb Hanson led off with a walk. He stole second and third and scored on a two-out single by Breese.
One run in the fifth inning and two in the top of the sixth extended the Cowboys' lead to 7-1.
Concordia scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to make it 7-3.
Hanson singled with one out and Stryker Hake followed with a run-producing triple.
Keegun Beims singled to drive in Hake.
The Panthers were retired in order in the seventh inning.
Maddox Frey, the first of five Concordia pitchers, suffered the loss. He gave up four runs on four hits, struck out one and walked two in two innings.
Hanson worked one and two-thirds scoreless innings. He gave up one hit and walked three.
Breese surrendered one run on two hits in an inning of work.
Hake pitched one and a third innings. He allowed two runs on four hits, struck out one and walked one.
Beims worked a scoreless seventh innings and struck out one.
Hake had two hits for the Panthers.
Concordia will play a non-league doubleheader at Minneapolis on Friday.
