T-Birds down Cougars 3-1, clinch at least share of West title

The 20th-ranked Cloud County Community College women's soccer team locked up no worse than a tie for first place in the Jayhawk Conference West Division by defeating Barton Community College 3-1 in a home match on Wednesday.
With their 13th consecutive win, the Thunderbirds are now 13-2 overall and 11-0 in the Jayhawk West.
Hutchinson Community College, 12-2 overall, is 10-1 in conference play.
The Blue Dragons' lone loss was 2-1 to Cloud County.
Cloud County will play at Hutchinson at 6 p.m. Saturday.
Barton Community College, 8-7 overall and 8-4 in conference play, grabbed an early 1-0 lead on Cloud County when Domenica Pena scored just over five minutes in off an assist from Babriela Freitas.
Sophomore Izabella Christiana Mine took a pass from Fatima Leme and scored in the 17th minute of the match to pull the T-Birds even with the Cougars at 1-1.
Cloud County scored again with just 90 seconds remaining in the first half to go on top to stay, 2-1.
Alicia Smith won a battle for possession at the Barton end of the field, and delivered a pass to Franciele Cupertino,who fired a shot into the net.
The T-Birds tacked on an insurance goal in the 75th minute when Mine scored again to make it 3-1.
Cloud County finished with 15 shots, five on goal, to 13 shots for the Cougars, three on goal.
Thaynara Soares was in goal for the T-Birds, and had four saves.
