T-Birds fall to Garden City

The Garden City Community College Broncbusters downed the Cloud County Community College volleyball team in straight sets Wednesday night in Bryant Gymnasium.
Cloud County, now 4-4 overall and 1-3 in the Jayhawk Conference West Division, fell behind Garden City 8-6 in the opening set.
The Thunderbirds scored six straight points to go up 12-8.
Garden City, 13-3 overall and 2-0 in the conference, scored the next four points to pull even at 12-12.
Cloud County was on top 15-14 when the Broncbusters used a 7-0 run to go up 21-15.
Garden City went on to win the set, 25-16.
The second set of the match was tight throughout.
Garden City, with the scored tied at 11-11, scored three consecutive points to go on top to stay.
The Broncbusters extended the lead to 19-14.
Scoring six of the next seven points, the T-Birds pulled even at 20-20.
Cloud County led 22-21 when Garden City scored the final four points to capture a 25-22 victory and go up 2-0.
The third set was tied at 9-9 when the Broncbusters scored seven straight points to go on top to stay.
Cloud County got as close as 20-15, but fell 25-18.
Kenzie Cooper led Cloud County with seven kills. Camryn Wessel had six kills and Doga Eski added five.
Katelynn Brogan and Jacey Schurle had five blocks each for the T-Birds.
Brogan also had 12 digs and 11 assists.
Zoe Bechard had eight digs and Cooper had seven.
Brette Doile had nine assists.
