T-Birds split with Dodge City

DODGE CITY — Bouncing back from a shutout loss in game one, the Cloud County Community Community College baseball team downed Dodge City Community College 12-6 in game two of a Jayhawk Conference Doubleheader on Thursday.
Dodge City blanked Cloud County 1-0 in the opening game of the twinbill.
Alexander Diaz and Gavin Roy drove in seven runs combined to power the Thunderbirds to the win in game two.
Brock Wollin hit a two-run home run in the top of the second inning for Cloud County.
The T-Birds, now 34-19 overall and 19-11 in conference play, led 3-1 when Dodge City put up three runs in the bottom of the third inning to go on top 4-3.
Cloud County, trailing 5-4, scored five runs in the top of the eighth inning to go on top to stay.
Diaz blasted a three-run home run in the inning and Paul Schuyler had a solo shot.
The Conquistadors, 27-27 overall and 17-13 in the conference, scored one run in the bottom of the eighth to make it 9-6.
A three-run home run by Roy in the ninth inning gave the T-Birds the 12-6 advantage.
Blayne Fritcher, the fourth of five Cloud County pitchers, got the win. He worked one-third of an inning and did not allow a run or a hit.
Phil Brennaman pitched the first four and a third innings for the T-Birds.
Cayden Castellanos, Brady Stuewe and Cole Askew also pitched in relief.
Diaz had two hits and drove in four runs.
Roy was 3-for-6 with three runs batted in and three runs scored.
Wollin and Anthony Taggart knocked in two runs each.
Dodge City's Justus Revill shut out Cloud County on one hit in the first game of the doubleheader.
A Carter Olson home run in the bottom of the second inning was the only run of the game.
Cloud County's Mason McConnaughey gave up two runs on one hit, struck out 10 and walked just one in six innings in suffering the loss.
