T-Birds split with Grizzlies

The Cloud County Community College baseball team earned a split for a third consecutive time in a Jayhawk Conference doubleheader.
Cloud County downed Butler County Community College 3-1 in the opening game of the twinbill Thursday at the Concordia Sports Complex.
The Thunderbirds then fell 5-1 in the second game and are now 15-11 overall and 6-4 in conference play.
Game one was scoreless until Butler pushed across one run in the top of the third inning.
Cloud County tied the game when Danny Infante scored on a Brock Wollin single in the bottom of the fourth inning.
The T-Birds then went on top to stay, 3-1 with two runs in the fifth inning.
Gavin Roy singled home Eric Foufoulas and scored on a base hit by Paul Schuyler.
Mason McConnaughey pitched the first six innings for Cloud County to get the win. He gave up one run on four hits, struck out six and walked one.
Cole Askew worked a perfect seventh inning to record the save. He struck out two of the three batters he faced.
Cloud County scored its only run in the second game on a Demitri Shakotko home run in the first inning.
The T-Birds would be shut out on four hits over the final eight innings.
Butler, 15-10 overall and 3-3 in the conference, went on top to stay with two runs in the fourth inning.
The Grizzlies added one run in the seventh inning and two in the eighth.
Cayden Castellanos suffered the loss. He allowed two runs on six hits and struck out five in five innings.
Phil Brennaman gave up three runs, two earned, on five hits, struck out four and walked two in three and a third innings.
Mason Munz gave up one hit in two-thirds of an inning.
Shakotko had two of Cloud County's five hits in the game.
The two teams will finish up the four-game series with a doubleheader at El Dorado on Saturday.
