T-Birds split pair with Southeast

BEATRICE, Neb. — Back on the road following a six-game homestand, the Cloud County Community College softball team split a doubleheader with Southeast Community College on Monday afternoon.
Cloud County extended its winning streak to six straight games by holding off Southeast, 6-4, in the first game.
Southeast used a four-run sixth inning to defeat the Thunderbirds 8-4 in the second game.
Cloud County scored one run in the second inning, three in the fifth and one in the top of the sixth to take a 5-0 lead on Southeast in the opening game of the twinbill.
Kaylee Pinneo homered with Kaitlynn Baca aboard in the fifth. Madyson Buescher hit a solo shot in the sixth.
The Bobcats scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
A run in the top of the seventh inning gave Cloud County a 6-2 advantage.
Southeast put up two runs in the bottom of the seventh to narrow the gap to 6-4.
Kiera Brack pitched all seven innings to get the win. She gave up four runs on nine hits, struck out two and walked four.
Brack also had three hits and drove in two runs.
Baca had three hits in three at bats.
Brooklynn McCormick had two hits and scored three runs and Pinneo knocked in two runs.
After falling behind 2-0 in game two, the T-Birds scored three runs in the top of the third inning.
Southeast tied the game with a run in the bottom of the third.
Brooke Bonar scored on a Pinneo single in the top of the fourth, and Cloud County led again at 4-3.
The Bobcats pulled even with a run in the fifth inning and then scored four runs in the sixth to take an 8-4 lead.
Cloud County was shut out over the final three innings.
Paige Mahler worked five and two-thirds innings in taking the loss. She allowed eight runs, seven earned, on 13 hits and struck out four.
Pinneo had three hits in the game. Alyssa Reynolds and Harley Smith had two hits each.
Cloud County put up 25 runs in sweeping a doubleheader from the Hastings College junior varsity last Saturday.
The T-Birds won the first game, 11-3, and took the second game, 14-1.
Brack got the win in game one by pitching three shutout innings. She also went 3-for-3 at the plate with five runs batted in.
Camille Stauffer had two hits and knocked in three runs.
Baca and Buescher had two hits each.
Brecken Whitney allowed just one run in earning the win in game two. She struck out nine and walked two.
McCormick, Pinneo and Brack had two hits and drove in three runs each.
Baca was 4-for-4 with two runs batted in.
The T-Birds walked off with two wins over the McPherson College junior varsity back on March 6.
Pinneo hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Cloud County a 9-7 win in the first game. She was 3-for-5 with five runs batted in.
The T-Birds rallied with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to win the second game, 8-7.
Buescher scored the winning run on a Madeline McIntire single.
Pinneo had two hits and drove in two runs.
