Thompson wins two events

WICHITA — Sophomore Tamara Thompson recorded two first-place finishes for the Cloud County Community College women’s track and field team in the Friends University Spring Invitational that finished up last Saturday.

Thompson captured first place in the hammer throw with a best of 164-11. She won the discus with a toss of 147-7.

With a throw of 40-3/4, Thompson placed fifth in the shot put.

Adrienne Locke-Garcia was third in the shot put (41-3) and fourth in the discus (130-10).

Margherita Sala finished seventh in the hammer throw (149-11).

Shackala Henry placed first for Cloud County in the high jump by making 5-5. Chenessa Davis tied for sixth (5-1).

Henry was also fifth in the triple jump (37-4 3/4).

Davis finished second in the long jump (18-7 1/2) and third in the 100-meter hurdles (14.32).

The T-Birds had Ozia Trujillo finish first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:33.23.

Cloud County’s 4x800 relay team of Jaelyn Rumback, Mercy Angaamchaab, N Vanee Anchike and Nontokozo Ncube set a new Cloud County school record on its way to placing second in 9:10.55.

Rafiatu Nuhu placed second in the 200-meter dash (24.41) and third in the 100-meter dash (11.95).

Cloud County’s 4x400 relay team of Rumback, Lela Singleton, Joelle Mathilda and Jasmine Sakaguchi finished third (4:27.77).

Sakaguchi was third in the pole vault (11-7 3/4).

Rumback placed fifth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:08.85) and Sakaguchi was eighth (1:12.11).

The Cloud County men got a first-place finish by Andrew Smikle in the shot put with a throw of 47-7 3/4. Joshua Dieter was seventh (44-10 1/4).

Smikle also finished second in the discus (153-4).

Ifeanyichukwu Aninze placed third in the 400 hurdles for the T-Birds (54.36). Bradley Nkosi was sixth (56.80).

Nkoski was also eighth in the 110-meter hurdles (15.38).

Kamogelo Thipe finished fourth in the 1,500-meter run (4:09.82).

Arne Roehl placed fifth in the high jump (6-4) and Trey Collins was eighth (6-0).

Mohamed Belhassen finished fifth in the pole vault (14-2 1/4) and Skylar McFarling was seventh (13-11 1/4).

Oageng Mdlela was sixth in the long jump (22-10 1/12).

Felix Surtan placed seventh in the 3,000 steeplechase (10:15.11).

Competing in the Wichita State University Combined Events last week, Cloud County’s Kevin Brooks placed fourth in the decathlon with 6,251 points. That ranks second in the NJCAA this season.

Brandon Hutchinson scored 6,025 points to place fifth for the T-Birds. He currently ranks fifth in NJCAA.
