Thunderbirds fall to Dodge City
Scoring two goals in the second half, Dodge City Community College handed the Cloud County Community College men's soccer team a 3-1 Jayhawk Conference West Division home defeat on Saturday.
The match was knotted at 1-1 through the first 45 minutes of play.
Dodge City, 3-0-1 overall and 1-0-1 in conference play, found the back of the net twice in the second half, and shut out Cloud County.
The loss ended the Thunderbirds' three-match winning streak. They are now 3-3-0 overall and 1-1-0 in conference play.
Nathan O'Brien scored Dodge City's first goal just 5:44 into the match off an assist from Igor Louis Maciel.
Cloud County freshman Jeldrik Dallmann tied the match at 1-1 with a goal 26 minutes in. Djougher Oliveira got the assist.
The T-Birds would go scoreless the rest of the way.
An unassisted goal by Mario Martinez at the 67:05 mark put Dodge City on top to stay, 2-1.
The Conquistadors pushed the lead to 3-1 when Eduardo Gabriel da Silva converted on a free kick in the 72nd minute.
Cloud County out shot Dodge City 16-14 and had nine shots on goal, but converted on just one.
The T-Birds are on the road for a conference match at Pratt Community College, 1-4-1 overall and 0-1-1 in the conference, on Wednesday.
