Thunderbirds go 3-1 against Pratt

aPRATT — Closing out a Jayhawk Conference series with a doubleheader sweep on Sunday, the Cloud County Community College baseball team went 3-1 against the Pratt Community College Beavers.
Cloud County, now 19-7 overall and 4-4 in conference play, edged Pratt 3-2 in extra innings in game one on Sunday, and then picked up a third consecutive victory by downing the Beavers 6-3 in the second game.
Pratt won the first game of the series 9-3 Saturday at the Concordia Sports Complex.
The T-Birds won game two, 8-3.
Pratt took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning in game one on Sunday.
Willie Ponce tripled to drive in Ty Wevers and scored on a double by Garrett Redden in the top of the fifth inning to give Cloud County a 2-1 advantage.
Pratt tied the game at 2-2 with an unearned run in the fifth inning.
The game remained tied until the top of the ninth.
Kolden Howerton singled home Redden to put the T-Birds on top, 3-2.
Getting a ground out and two strikeouts, Rans Sanders retired Pratt in order in the bottom of the ninth.
Sanders pitched four scoreless innings to get the win. He gave up one hit, struck out four and walked one.
Jack Mount worked the first five innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits, struck out five and walked three.
Redden and Wevers had two hits each.
Trailing 2-0 in the second game, the T-Birds put up four runs in the top of the fourth inning.
Tom Poole tripled home Redden with the first run. He scored on a double by Howerton.
A single by Griffin Stuewe got Howerton home.
Wevers doubled to drive in Ian Riley.
Cloud County extended the lead to 6-2 on a two-run double by Stuewe in the sixth inning.
Pratt added one run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 6-3.
Haden Dow gave up three runs, one earned, on four hits, struck out eight and walked one in six innings to get the win.
Stuewe pitched a scoreless seventh inning. He struck out one and walked one and was 2-for-2 at the plate with three runs batted in.
Howerton had two hits and scored two runs. Redden had two hits.
In game one in Concordia on Saturday, Pratt grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
Danny Infante homered with Riley aboard in the bottom of the first, and Cloud County lead 2-1.
Pratt went on top to stay 4-2 with three runs in the top of the second inning.
The Beavers tacked on three runs in the top of the fourth inning to make it 7-2.
Poole hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth.
Pratt added two runs in the sixth.
Giordano Mezzomo took the loss. He surrendered four runs on three hits, struck out four and walked two in an inning and two-thirds.
Aaron Hayes gave up five runs, four earned, on three hits, struck out six and walked three in four and a third innings.
Cameron Burford pitched one scoreless inning. He gave up one hit and struck out two.
The second game was tied 1-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning.
An unearned run gave Cloud County a 2-1 cushion.
The T-Birds scored three runs in the fifth inning.
Howerton doubled home Poole and scored on a triple by Riley.
Riley got home on a balk.
Each team scored a run in the sixth inning.
Two runs in the bottom of the seventh gave the T-Birds an 8-3 cushion.
Adler Pierson had a two-run double in the inning.
Pratt scored a run in the top of the eighth to make it 8-3.
Christian Womble picked up the win. He allowed two runs on just one hit, struck out six and walked six in six innings.
Conner Woods gave up one run on one hit, struck out three and walked one in three innings to record the save.
Howerton had three hits and scored two runs.
Pierson drove in two runs and Riley scored three.
