Thunderbirds split pair of matches

SALINA — The Cloud County Community College volleyball team split a pair of matches in a triangular hosted by the Kansas Wesleyan University junior varsity on Saturday.
Cloud County swept Kansas Wesleyan in its opening match.
The Thunderbirds won the first set, 25-20.
Cloud County downed the Coyotes 25-14 in the second set and finished off the sweep by squeezing out a 25-23 victory in the third set.
Bradie Medina and Jacey Schurle had eight kills each for the T-Birds. Katelyn Brogan added seven kills and also had 11 assists and five service aces.
Madelynn Wells finished with 10 digs. Brette Doile had nine and Medina had seven.
Ashley Suter led Cloud County with 19 assists.
The Ottawa University junior varsity got past the T-Birds in five sets.
Ottawa won the first set, 25-19.
Cloud County, now 14-6, went up by winning the second set 25-19 and the third set, 25-17.
A 25-19 victory in the fourth set pulled Ottawa even at 2-2.
The Braves then held on for a 20-18 win in the fifth and deciding set.
Medina recorded 25 kills in the match. Schurle had six and Emery May added five.
Doile had 30 digs. Wells had 21 and Brogan had 11.
Brogan also had 24 assists and Suter had 17.
