Thunderbirds sweep Colby

The Cloud County Community College volleyball team evened its Jayhawk Conference West Division record at 1-1 by defeating Colby Community College in straight sets Wednesday night in Bryant Gymnasium.
Cloud County, now 4-2 overall, scored seven straight points to turn a 7-7 tie into a 14-7 lead in the opening set of the match.
The Thunderbirds extended the lead to 21-11.
Colby, 4-3 overall and 0-3 in conference play, would chip away at the deficit before Cloud County secured a 25-20 victory.
After falling behind in the second set, the T-Birds would battle back to go up 17-9.
The Trojans got back within three points, 17-14.
Scoring five straight points, Cloud County extended the lead to 22-14 on its way to a 25-17 win.
Colby got out to a quick 6-1 lead in the third set.
Cloud County outscored the Trojans 18-9 to go on top 19-15.
Colby got back within a point at 20-19.
The T-Birds were able to hold on down the straight for a 25-22 win to complete the sweep.
Katelynn Brogan led Cloud County with 10 kills and also had eight digs.
Doga Eski finished with eight kills and Kenzie Cooper had seven.
Zoe Bechard had a team-high 11 digs for the T-Birds as well as six assists.
Mariah Janda added eight digs.
Brette Doile had 14 assists.
