Thunderbirds sweep doubleheader from Coffeyville

The Cloud County Community College softball team picked up a pair of Jayhawk Conference Division II victories over Coffeyville Community College Wednesday at the CCCC Softball Field.
Cloud County downed Coffeyville 10-2 in five innings in the first game of the doubleheader.
The Thunderbirds, now 15-16 overall and 4-10 in conference play, rolled to a 14-3 win over the Red Devils in five innings in game two.
Ryleigh Jones scored a run on a ground ball by McKenna Mayhew in the bottom of the first inning to give Cloud County an early lead in game one.
Coffeyville, 3-20 overall and 2-12 in the Jayhawk Conference, scored its only two runs of the game in the top of the third inning.
The T-Birds answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning to go on top to stay, 5-2.
Jones scored the first run on a double steal.
Mayhew tripled to drive in Shayna Fila and then scored on a base hit by Taylor Dekok.
Delaney Exon hit a solo home run in the inning.
Jones would score on a ground ball by Mayhew in the fourth inning to make it a 6-2 game.
Scoring four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, the T-Birds ended the game because of the eight-run rule.
Jones singled home two runs in the inning and scored on a base hit by Fila.
An error on a ball hit by Exon allowed Fila to score.
Dekok pitched all five innings to get the win. She gave up two runs on four hits, struck out seven and walked one.
Jones was 2-for-2 at the plate. She drove in two runs and scored four.
Mayhew knocked in three runs.
Exon and Dekok had two hits each.
Cloud County pushed across one run in the bottom of the first inning and would not trail in game two.
Jones scored the run on a fly ball by Mayhew.
Five runs in the second inning extended the T-Birds' lead to 6-0.
Dekok scored the first run on a error.
A ground ball by Mia Kelly plated Alexis Billings.
Jones then hit a three-run home run.
Coffeyville scored one run in the top of the third inning.
Cloud County erupted for eight runs in the bottom of the third, and led 14-1.
Kelly singled home Billings with the first run.
A base hit by Jones got two runs home.
Jones scored on a single by Fila.
An infield single by Dekok drove in Fila.
Grace Utz tripled and knocked in two runs. She scored on a single by Billings.
Coffeyville added two runs in the top of the fifth inning, but the game ended.
Kyra Meyer allowed three runs, two earned, on six hits and struck out three in five innings to pick up the win.
Jones had three hits in four at bats, drove in three runs and scored three.
Fila, Dekok and Billings had two hits each.
Utz and Kelly each drove in two runs.
