Thunderbirds take two from Fort Scott

FORT SCOTT — The Cloud County Community College baseball team improved to 4-0 on the season by winning both games in a doubleheader against Fort Scott Community College.
Three pitchers combined on a shutout as Cloud County won the first game, 8-0.
The Thunderbirds then used a six-run ninth inning to pull away to a 13-5 victory in the second game.
Christian Womble, Giordano Mezzomo and Jack Mount teamed up to blank Fort Scott in the opening game of the twinbill.
Womble worked the first two innings and gave up two hits. He struck out five and walked four.
Mezzomo allowed just one hit, struck out eight and didn't walk any in three innings of work to get the win.
Mount pitched the seventh inning. He gave up one hit, struck out three and walked two.
Cloud County broke a scoreless tie with four runs in the top of the third inning.
Ian Riley, Tom Poole, Willie Ponce and Alexander Diaz drove in runs.
Two runs in the fifth inning extended Cloud County's lead to 6-0.
The T-Birds added two runs in the top of the seventh.
Diaz had a run-producing triple.
Cloud County scored eight runs on eight hits.
Adler Pierson was 2-for-2 at the plate with two runs batted in.
Diaz also drove in two runs.
Cloud County got out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning in game two.
Fort Scott scored one run in the bottom of the inning.
Four runs in the top of the second inning gave the T-Birds a 6-1 advantage.
The Greyhounds responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning, and trailed 6-4.
Each team scored a run in the seventh inning, and Cloud County was up 7-5.
The T-Birds then put up six runs in the top of the ninth inning to blow the game open.
Conner Woods got the win in relief of Aaron Hayes.
Woods worked three scoreless innings. He allowed one hit, struck out six and walked one.
Hayes gave up four runs, two earned, on two hits, struck out three and walked three in two innings.
Haden Dow worked two innings and allowed one run on two hits. He struck out five.
Rans Sanders pitched two perfect innings to get the save. He struck out four.
Brock Wollin and Joel Benes had three hits and drove in two runs each for Cloud County.
Garrett Redden had two hits, knocked in two runs and scored three.
