Axtell beats Clifton-Clyde in battle of eagles

Posted

Hosting the number two team in 8-Man Division Two, TVL foe Axtell, the Clifton-Clyde football team fell 56-0 to the football powerhouse in a battle of the Eagles.

Axtell got on the board in a hurry. After receiving the opening kickoff, Axtell found themselves in the end zone in just six plays to take an 8-0 lead. Clifton-Clyde looked like they were going to respond even faster, taking the first play 27 yards on a Kyzler Damman run, with a face-mask penalty by Axtell putting the Eagles on the 17-yard line, but they would stall out and were forced into a turnover on downs. Axtell wasted no time and found themselves in the end zone in just two plays to go up 16-0.

After CC was forced into a three-and-out, Axtell scored in just one play to expand the lead to 22-0. After a risky fourth-down play didn’t go Clifton-Clyde’s way, Axtell capitalized once again with another one-play drive to make it 28-0. After a CC three-and-out, Axtell scored in two plays to go up 34-0 to end the first quarter.

The second quarter would be more of the same: Clifton-Clyde would get some progress before Axtell would force a punt or turnover, before scoring three more times in the second quarter, and after Axtell ended the second quarter leading 56-0, the game was called at halftime.

Damman went 3-10 passing for 48 yards. Trenton Benne led in receiving yards with 28 on two receptions; Kiernan Fahey had one catch for 20 yards. Damman had 64 yards rushing on 15 carries; Cooper Pruser had 11 yards on two carries; Colt Germann had two carries for eight yards; Jacob Newton had three carries for four yards.

Damman led in tackles with six; Brody Knox had two; Striker Affolter had two; Fahey had a tackle for a loss; Ryan LeClair had one tackle; Germann had one tackle; Benne had one tackle; Aekley Goeckel had one tackle.
