ST. GEORGE — Facing off with two of the top teams in 4A, the Concordia High School baseball and softball teams split their doubleheaders against the Rock Creek Mustangs.
BASEBALL
In game one, the Panthers won 2-1.
Rock Creek scored first with its only run in the bottom of the first inning, but the Mustang offense got shut down by Chane Parker and the Panther defense. The Panthers got on the board when Koehn Williams scored off a Drake Blochlinger double, who then scored off an Ayden Krier single, to take a 2-1 lead. Chane Parker shut down the Mustangs to take game one.
In game two, the Panthers fell 4-3.
After three innings of little offense, Boone Richard and Parker Jackson scored off of a Kale Schroeder double to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead. The Mustangs came alive in the fifth, scoring three runs, thanks to Panther errors. In the sixth inning, the Mustangs took the 4-3 lead and closed the game with three strikeouts to hand the Panthers their first loss of the season.
SOFTBALL
In game one, the Panthers won 4-2.
Morgan Lister started things strong for the Panthers, giving the Panthers a 1-0 lead. Catelin Benyshek and Katelyn Reedy scored in the second inning to expand the lead to 3-0. Stella Trost scored in the top of the sixth to make it a 4-0 game. The Mustangs tried to claw back, scoring one run in the bottom of both the sixth and seventh innings, but fell short.
In game two, the Panthers lost 12-1.
Keeping the momentum, Kinsleigh Bethune scored for the Panthers in the top of the first inning, but the Panthers would only get three more hits the rest of the game. Rock Creek opened with nine runs in the bottom of the first, and would pick up three insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 12-1 lead and end the game early.
CHS softball hosted Beloit on April 1, with the Panthers falling 6-4. The Panthers had nine hits. Game two got rained out and has been postponed to April 25.
