CCCC softball splits series with Fort Scott, falls to #16 Neosho

FORT SCOTT — On a long road trip to southeast Kansas, the T-Birds split a series with Fort Scott to pick up their 10th win of the season.

In game one, the T-birds won 4-2.

After five scoreless innings, the T-Birds finally got on the board in the top of the sixth inning when the T-Birds scored three runs to take a 3-0 lead. The T-birds would pick up another run in the top of the seventh, before the Greyhounds scored two runs before running out of gas. Cloud took game one in a gritty 4-2 win.

Paige Mahler earned the win with two runs allowed on seven hits with four strikeouts.

In game two, the T-Birds lost 10-2.

Fort Scott scored first with a solo run in the first inning before popping off for three runs in the second inning.

Cloud would get on the board with two runs in the third inning, before the Greyhounds’ defense kept them off the board for the rest of the game. Fort Scott scored one run in the fourth and five runs in the fifth to close the door on the T-Birds, handing Cloud the 10-2 loss.

Brecken Whitney was given the loss with 10 runs allowed on 15 hits.

Hosting the number 16-ranked (NJCAA DII) Neosho County, the T-Birds got swept by the Panthers.

In game one, the T-Birds lost 13-4.

Cloud scored first with two runs in the second inning to take a 2-0 lead. The Panthers scored four runs in the top of the third inning, before the T-Birds tied the game with two runs of their own in the third. The Panthers scored two runs in the fourth and fifth inning, before closing with a five-run sixth inning to win, 13-4.

Paige Mahler (4-9) was given the loss.

Camille Stauffer had one run scored on two hits.

Shaylee Keslar and Berkleigh Curtis each had one hit.

In game two, the T-Birds lost 10-0.

After a scoreless first inning, the Panthers scored one run in the second inning and wouldn’t let up, scoring three runs in the third, four runs in the fourth, and two runs in the fifth.

Brecken Whitney (4-6) was given the loss.

Jillian Artiges had the lone hit for the T-Birds.
