CCCC softball sweeps Indy, splits with Allen County

In the second-to-last home doubleheader of the season, the Cloud County softball team swept Independence with a pair of wins.

In game one, the T-birds won 12-4.

After no runs in the first inning, the T-Birds scored first in the second inning. Cloud put away the game in the fourth inning with seven runs scored to take an 8-0 lead. The Pirates scored four runs in the top of the fifth, to which Cloud countered with four runs of its own to take game one.

Brecken Whitney (5-9) earned the win with four runs allowed on seven hits.

In game two, the T-Birds won 13-3.

Both teams scored one run in the first inning, and Cloud blew the game open with eight runs scored in the second inning. Indy would score two runs in the third to make it a 9-3 game. The T-Birds would then score four runs in the bottom of the third and would hold on to take game two.

Paige Mahler (7-9) earned the win.

 

Hosting Allen County in Salina for a KJCCC doubleheader, the T-BIrds split the series to snap a six-game losing streak.

In game one, the T-BIrds lost 5-4.

After four scoreless innings, it would be the T-Birds scoring first, picking up one run in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 1-0 lead. The Red Devil offense would roar in the seventh inning with a five-run inning to take a 5-1 lead with half an inning to play. Cloud would retaliate with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to make it a one-run game before falling short and losing game one.

Brecken Whitney (4-9) was given the loss, giving up five runs on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

In game two, the T-Birds won 8-2.

The T-Birds got to work quickly, scoring two runs in the first inning. The Red Devils would score one run in the second, and Cloud would score a run of its own in the third. The T-Bird offense carried the momentum into the fourth with three runs scored to take a 6-1 lead. Allen County would score one run in the sixth but it would be erased by two Cloud runs in the bottom of the inning, and the T-Birds took game two.

Paige Mahler (6-9) earned the win with two runs allowed on five hits with three strikeouts.

Harley Smith and Maliyah Koster each had two runs scored on two hits.

Emalee Johnson, Shaylee Keslar, and Hailey Garcia each had one run scored on one hit.
