In the final non-league doubleheader before league play gets into full swing, the Concordia High School Panther baseball team defeated Sacred Heart in commanding fashion.
In game one, the Panthers run-ruled the Knights, 15-0.
The Panthers scored first and hard, scoring three runs in the first inning, thanks to two hits from Drake Blochlinger and Parker Jackson, and getting three more runners on base from errors and walks.
The Panthers picked up a run in the second before exploding for eight runs in the third inning to take a 12-0 lead.
Concordia sealed the first game with three more runs in the fourth to take a 15-0 lead to take game one.
Blochlinger got the start on the mound. He only gave up one hit and had two walks with three strikeouts.
In game two, the Panthers won 4-3.
The Panthers scored first in the second inning, thanks to a Koehn Williams walk and two singles by Rush LeDuc and Brandon Vignery. They would score another critical run, thanks to back-to-back doubles by Ayden Krier and Parker Jackson, that allowed Krier to score, putting the Panthers up 2-0.
Sacred Heart finally got on the board in the fifth inning. The Knights were finally able to make solid contact with three hits in the inning and scored three runs.
Down 3-2, the Panthers tied the game up in the bottom of the fifth after Jackson hit a single. A fielder’s choice got him on second. He stole third base and home to tie the game 3-3.
After a three-up-three-down seventh inning for both sides, the Panthers took the lead after Krier got on base by an error. Jackson was hit by a pitch and Krier stole third before Kale Schroeder hit Krier in for a walk-off single.
Krier got the start, with Jackson closing the game and earning the win with three strikeouts.
Opening up league play still undefeated, the Concordia High School Panther baseball team swept Abilene to close out its home stretch.
In game one, the Panthers won 5-4.
The Panthers would find themselves up early, with Drake Blochlinger scoring after picking up a double. Two groundouts would allow him to score a critical early run.
Abilene would tie the game in the second inning. The Panthers would get close to scoring in the third inning, but would leave two runners in scoring position stranded.The Cowboys would take a 3-1 lead in the third inning, thanks to a pair of Panther errors, putting the Panthers behind for the first time of the season.
The Panthers tied the game in the fifth inning with LeDuc scoring after getting walked and stealing second, before getting hit in by Blochlinger, who scored himself with a single. A passed ball allowed him to get to third, before scoring on a Krier groundout and putting the Panthers down 4-3.
After a defensive sixth inning, the Panthers held the Cowboys scoreless in the top of the seventh. Boone Richard got on base after being hit and would score after a base hit by Krier. A balk advanced Richard and Krier to third and second before Jackson hit a double into deep left field for a walk-off double to take the 5-4 win.
Chane Parker got the start on the mound, with Jackson taking over in the sixth inning and earning the win.
In game two, the Panthers won 8-3.
The Panthers came out hot in game two, scoring seven runs in the first inning off of three hits, four walks, and one hit by pitch.
The offense cooled down until the fifth inning when Chane Parker got on base after a fielder’s choice and an error. Back-to-back singles by Schroeder and Williams got the Panthers back on the board.
In the sixth inning, the Cowboys finally got on the board with two runs scored, thanks to a hit by pitch and two errors. A double in the seventh and an error allowed one more score before the Panthers closed the game.
Richard got the start on the mound and earned the win.
