CHS baseball sweeps Minneapolis by a combined 47-2

MINNEAPOLIS — Kicking off the six-game road trip to end the regular season in commanding fashion, the Concordia High School baseball team dominated the Minneapolis Lions by a combined score of 47-2 in the doubleheader.

In game one, the Panthers won 20-2.

The Panther offense was on fire to open the game, with all nine batters getting an at-bat in the first inning, and bringing in five runs on four hits to take a 5-0 lead.

The Panther defense shut down the Lions in the first two innings, only giving up one hit. In the top of the second inning, Boone Richard and Drake Blochlinger took advantage of the Lions’ mistakes, stealing bases and advancing on passed balls, to expand the lead to seven. The bats heated back up in the third with the Panthers scoring seven runs on six hits, including back-to-back home runs from Richard and Blochlinger. The Lions finally got on the board in the bottom of the third, thanks to four hits, to make it a 14-2 game.

Concordia didn’t let up in the fourth inning, scoring six runs on three hits before ending the inning 1-2-3 on defense to take game one.

The Panthers had a total of 16 hits in game one.

Chane Parker got the start on the mound, pitching three innings and picking up five strikeouts and giving up only four hits.

In game two, the Panthers won 27-0.

Keeping the game one momentum going into game two, the Panthers scored six runs before they picked up their first out, and totaled seven runs before the inning was over.

The Lions’ offense was neutralized for the entire game, only getting on base once in the three innings with a walk in the second inning.

The Panthers scored 20 runs on 15 hits in the second inning. Ending the third inning intentionally, the Panthers completed the sweep.

The Panthers had 22 hits.

Boone Richard started on the mound, pitching two innings with only one walk with four strikeouts.
