MARYSVILLE, Kan.—Opening the season with both a tournament at Marysville and the official league opener, both in the same building, the Concordia Panther volleyball team opens the year with a 5-3 start.
In the league matches versus Marysville, the Panthers won both matches.
For match one, the Panthers won 2-1, after a set one loss of 25-20, the Panthers roared back with close 25-23 and 25-22 set wins to take match one.
In match two, the Panthers swept 2-0. In set one, the Panthers won 25-20, and in set two, won 25-22.
Jaylin Roush led with 29 kills, while adding 33 digs and four assists.
Baylen Arnold led in digs with 39, while having four assists.
Rylie Jessup led in assists with 56, while chipping in 15 digs and three kills.
Charlize Cash led in blocks with 6, adding 11 digs and nine kills.
Kynlee Hamel had 16 kills and 15 digs.
Stella Trost had 22 digs, seven kills, and three blocks.
In the Marysville tournament to start the year, the Panthers went 3-3 on the day and finished in fourth place in the 10-team tournament.
Round one: the Panthers defeated Valley Heights 2-0, with set wins 25-20 and 27-25.
Round two: the Panthers defeated Nemaha Central 2-0, with set wins of 25-21 and 25-20.
Round three: the Panthers fell to Riley County 2-1, with a 25-6 set one win, before the Falcons took the next two sets 25-18 and 28-26.
Round four: the Panthers defeated Marysville 2-0, with set wins of 25-21 and 25-19.
Semifinals: after a bye for the fifth round of pool play, the Panthers fell to Holton 2-0, 25-22, and 25-18, to fall to the third-place match.
Consolation: In a rematch versus Riley County from earlier in the day, the Panthers fell to the Falcons once more, falling 25-21 and 25-16 to finish in fourth place.
