FRANKFORT — Kicking off the season in thrilling fashion and avenging a 70-34 loss in last year’s season opener, the Clifton-Clyde football team defeated Frankfort 34-28.
After being held scoreless in the first half of the game, the Eagles would score every point in the second half from Joseph Fahey.
Fahey got the Eagles on the board in the third quarter with a 30-yard touchdown pass to Kyzler Damman, and converted the two-point conversion to Gage LeClair. Fahey then ran the ball in himself for a two-yard touchdown and would convert the two-point conversion.
In the fourth quarter, the Eagles tied the game with two more Fahey runs, but would fail the point-after attempts and would tie the game 28-28 at the end of regulation.
In overtime, the Eagles would score on a 10-yard Fahey run but would fail the PAT. The Eagles would hold off Frankfort in overtime and avenge the loss from the previous year.
Fahey threw 10-16 for 173 yards and a touchdown while adding 132 yards on the ground for four touchdowns.
Luke Nobert had four receptions for 101 yards, Dammob had three receptions for 41 yards and a touchdown and Trenton Benne had 28 yards receiving.
Jacob Newton had 10 tackles and a sack.
Gage and Ryan LeClair, alongside James Jarvis each had eight tackles, with Jarvis having a sack.
Benne had two interceptions for the Eagle defense.
The Eagles limited the Wildcats to 2.56 yards per carry on the day, 32 attempts for 82 yards.
