Cloud men’s basketball falls to Hutchinson, Coffeyville

HUTCHINSON — After a 6-1 start to the season, the Cloud County Community College men’s basketball team dropped their sixth straight game, to cap off the 2025 calendar year with losses to Coffeyville and Hutchinson in KJCCC play.

Versus Hutchinson, the T-Birds fell 75-62.

Cloud had a slow start to the game, falling behind 9-3 in the first five minutes and then 17-5 with 12:26 remaining in the first half. The T-Birds finally started to find a rhythm on offense but were struggling to find a way to slow down the Blue Dragon offense, hovering around an 8-13 point deficit for the entire half before ending the first half down 38-29.

A 10-2 Hutch run to start the second half put the T-Birds down a game high 17 points, 48-31. Cloud would then score eight straight points to get the lead back down to single digits, but with every attempt to get the lead lower Hutchinson would respond by pushing the lead back up, getting the lead up to 17 again, 71-54 with 3:31 left, and was able to coast the rest of the game.

Manasseh Stackhouse led in scoring with 23 points and 11 rebounds.

DJ Holloway had 15 points, six rebounds and two assists.

Elidjah Savane had seven points and 10 rebounds.

Against number 22-ranked Coffeyville, the T-Birds fell 72-68.

With a hot start, hitting four of their first six shots, including two from behind the arc, the T-Birds took a 10-0 lead before Coffeyville finally got on the board. The Red Ravens roared back and made it a one-possession game with a 9-2 run, to put the score at 12-9.

Both teams fought for the lead and momentum, but Coffeyville took the lead 27-26 with 6:11 remaining in the first half. The T-Birds wouldn’t let the Red Ravens pull away, as a 6-4 spurt to close the half for Cloud put the T-Birds up entering the locker room 36-35.

The first five minutes of the second half saw seven lead changes as Cloud retook the lead, before going on a 10-4 run to take a 56-49 lead. Cloud was able to build a nine-point lead, 64-55, with 5:23 remaining, but the Cloud offense ran cold to close the game, as Coffeyville went on an 18-4 run and scored 11 unanswered points to hand the T-Birds the 72-68 loss.

DJ Holloway led in scoring with 22 points, and added five rebounds and two steals.

D’Ontez Walker had 12 points, three rebounds and three steals.

Elidjah Savane had 12 points and seven rebounds.
