Hosting the A-Team tournament, and with the American Legion getting a bye, Auburn, Subway, and Cloud Co-Op matched up in the first round last Thursday.
Auburn defeated Pike Valley 13-12
Pike Valley got on the board first in the top of the first, bringing in two runs. Auburn took control in the bottom of the first inning, scoring six runs to take a 6-2 lead.
Auburn held off Pike Valley in the second, and expanded their lead with four more runs to make it a 10-2 game. Pike Valley gained momentum in the third, scoring four runs and getting two in scoring position before a third out left it a 10-6 game.
Auburn’s Madalynn Gilsdorf scored the lone run that would be critical in the leadoff for the team. This placed Rowdee Holbert and Eliana Hicks in scoring positition, but both were unable to get home to score.
The fourth is where Auburn began feeling the pressure. Pike Valley took the lead by scoring six runs to make it a 12-11 game.
In the bottom of the fourth, Auburn’s Sophie Buckley hit a lead-off triple and would score the tying run. Rowland followed on base before scoring the winning run as Gilsdorf got the game-winning hit.
Madilyn Gilsdorf led with three runs scored for Auburn, with Hicks, Skylah Garst, and Macie Romo/Emma Gilsdorf scoring two runs each.
Co-Op defeated Subway 11-8.
Co-Op jumped out to an 8-1 lead after taking control of the game early by scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning and six in the second. Brynn Anderson scored the first point for Subway between the first two innings.
Cora Garlow scored in the top of the third for Subway, but Co-Op scored two runs. Layla Aggson and Ava Hanson scored as well to make it a 10-2 game.
Subway rallied for five straight runs to start the fifth inning and made it a two-run game, but the Co-Op team ended the game to advance to the second round.
Aggson scored three runs for the Co-Op, with Kingly, Audrey or Rowan and Ava scoring two runs. Rowan acted as a substitute for Audrey, but at an unknown time. Cora led for Subway by scoring two runs.
