Eagles defeat Doniphan West 55-40, Washington Co. 64-47

HIGHLAND - A second-half surge propelled the Clifton-Clyde High School boys’ basketball team to a Twin Valley League road win over Doniphan West on February 7.

Doniphan West used a 7-0 spurt at the start of the second half to go from six points down to leading by a point at 21-20.

Clifton-Clyde outscored the Mustangs 35-19 over the final quarter and a half to pull away to the 15-point victory.

“After a 7-0 run by Doniphan West in the beginning of the second half, we played awesome,” Clifton-Clyde coach Josh Skocny said.

Clifton-Clyde gave up just four points in the first quarter, and scored 10.

Each team scored 10 points in the second period, and Clifton-Clyde was up 20-14 at halftime.

Doniphan West scored the first seven points of the second half to grab the lead.

The Eagles went on a 17-5 run to go back on top, 37-26.

Clifton-Clyde added 18 points in the fourth quarter to 14 points for the Mustangs.

Jack Skocny, the leading scorer for the Eagles, finished with 13 points. He also pulled down 12 rebounds.

“They face-guarded and doubled Jack in the clear plan to deny him the ball at all times,” Josh Skocny said.

Trextin Koch finished with 10 points, four rebounds and three assists for the Eagles.

Luke Nobert grabbed eight rebounds.

Clifton-Clyde 64, Washington County 47

Clifton-Clyde used a dominant fourth quarter to knock off Washington County 64-47 in a home league game on February 4.

The Eagles trailed the Tigers 28-25 at halftime.

Clifton-Clyde outscored Washington County 21-17 in the third quarter to go on top, 46-45.

The Eagles then gave up just two points in the fourth quarter and scored 18.

Skocny scored 25 points to lead the Eagles. He also had a career-high 15 rebounds as well as five assists and five steals.

Nobert and Kye Chase scored 10 points each.
