Eagles defeat Rural Vista 64-33, advances to sub-state finals

The Clifton-Clyde High School boys basketball team advanced to the championship game of the Class 1A-Division I sub-state tournament by racing past Rural Vista 64-33 in a semifinal game it hosted last Tuesday night.

Clifton-Clyde (15-6) will play Burlingame (15-5) in the title game on Saturday night at Centralia High School.

Burlingame, ranked sixth in Class 1A-Division I, defeated Troy 79-60 in the sub-state semifinal game it hosted.

The winner of the championship game qualifies for the state tournament to be played March 12-15 at the United Wireless Arena in Dodge City.

Clifton-Clyde, which had won nine of its last 10 games, jumped out to an 18-8 lead on Rural Vista in the opening quarter.

The Eagles gave up just five points to the Heat in the second stanza, and scored 14 points to make it a 32-13 game at halftime.

Oliver Nobert scored all seven of his points in the third quarter as Clifton-Clyde outscored Rural Vista 20-13 to open up a 52-26 lead.

Nobert also had four assists and three steals in the game.

The Eagles tacked on 12 points in the final period to seven points for the Heat.

Jack Skocny led Clifton-Clyde with 21 points and 16 rebounds. He also had four assists.

Luke Nobert scored nine points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Eagles.

Ethan Sacco connected on three three-point shots in scoring nine points.
