Undefeated Rock Creek, ranked fourth in Class 4A, dealt the Clifton-Clyde High School Eagles a 77-44 home loss on December 20.
Clifton-Clyde, ranked 10th in Class 1A-Division I going into the game, was coming off a 59-49 home win on December 17 over a St. John’s/Tipton team that was ranked 10th Class 1A-Division II.
The Eagles are 3-3 going into the semester break and will host Centralia in a Twin Valley League game on January 3.
Clifton-Clyde trailed Rock Creek 19-11 at the end of the first quarter.
The Mustangs erupted for 29 points in the second stanza, and gave up 14 points, to make it 48-25 at halftime.
Clifton-Clyde was limited to five points in the third period. Rock Creek scored 13 points, and led 61-30.
The Mustangs added 16 points in the final quarter and the Eagles scored 14.
“It was a down night for us. We struggled getting up shots and had 22 total turnovers,” Clifton-Clyde coach Josh Skocny said.
Jack Skocny led the Eagles with 14 points and six rebounds.
Brodin Koch scored 11 points for Clifton-Clyde and Luke Nobert added 10.
Playing with a shot clock for the first time this season, the Eagles had a narrow 12-10 lead on St. John’s/Tipton after one quarter of play.
Clifton-Clyde outscored the Blujays 17-13 in the second period to go on top 29-23 at halftime.
The Eagles tacked on 12 points in the third quarter to 11 for St. John’s/Tipton.
Clifton-Clyde added 18 points in the final period and the Blujays scored 15.
“It was the best defense we have played all season,” Josh Skocny said.
Skocny led the way with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Brodin Koch scored 14 points and Trextin Koch finished with 10 points and nine rebounds.
