FRANKFORT - Avenging an earlier loss, the Clifton-Clyde High School boys’ basketball team knocked off Centralia 65-51 in the third-place game of the Twin Valley League Tournament played on January 25.
Centralia had defeated Clifton-Clyde 60-55 in a regular season matchup back on January 3.
The Eagles raced out to a 28-10 halftime lead on their way to picking up the win in the rematch.
Fourth-seeded Clifton-Clyde suffered a 58-48 loss to top-seeded Hanover in the tournament semifinals on January 24.
Hanover fell 70-61 to second-seeded Axtell in the championship game.
Frankfort got past Blue Valley 54-46 in the fifth-place game and Linn toppled Doniphan West 50-39 in the seventh-place game.
Clifton-Clyde led Centralia 12-7 after one quarter of play in the third-place game.
The Eagles limited the Panthers to three points in the second stanza and scored 16 points to make it a 28-10 game.
“Our defense held them to 10 at the half and only allowed three points in the third quarter,” Clifton-Clyde coach Josh Skocny said.
Centralia tossed in 19 points in the third quarter, to 17 for Clifton-Clyde, and it was a 45-29 game.
The Eagles knocked down 13 of 19 free throws on their way to scoring 20 points in the fourth quarter.
Jack Skocny, who led all scorers with 25 points, was 10 of 11 from the line and scored 15 points in the period.
Centralia added 22 points in the final quarter.
Skocny pulled down five rebounds in the game.
Oliver Nobert scored 11 points for the Eagles.
Ethan Sacco made three of four three-point attempts on his way to scoring nine points.
The Eagles shot 56 percent (19 of 34) from the field and were 10 of 17 from three-point range for 59 percent.
Quentin Alderfer scored 16 points for Centralia.
Hanover 58, Clifton-Clyde 48
Suffering through their worst shooting performance of the season (38 percent), the Eagles fell to Hanover in the semifinal game.
Hanover got out to a 17-13 first-quarter lead.
The Wildcats outscored the Eagles 12-10 in the second quarter to go up 29-13 at halftime.
Clifton-Clyde managed just nine points in the third period, to 14 for Hanover, and it was a 43-32 game.
The Eagles tacked on 16 points in the fourth quarter to 15 for the Wildcats.
Skocny led Clifton-Clyde with 23 points and six rebounds.
Kye Chase added eight points and five rebounds.
Tanner Bruna led three Hanover players in double figures with 21 points.
Garrett Martin scored 14 and Braylon Meyn added 12.
