In the second and final Concordia versus Concordia matchup of the regular season, F&A fell to CNB 23-2 on Tuesday, June 24.
CNB caught fire in the top of the first inning, with four straight base hits to open the game, all 10 batters scoring in the inning, and bringing in 11 runs before the first out. CNB scored another run before two straight outs ended the inning. Tucker Davis of F&A got a leadoff walk to start the bottom of the first, before three straight outs left him stranded at second base.
The momentum stayed with CNB entering the second, with three straight runs scored to start the inning, and 11 total runs in the inning. F&A got some offense going in the bottom of the second inning. After Elijah Shepard earned a leadoff walk, he would score the first run for F&A on a passed ball. Carson Brooks was walked after Shepard, and would score on an error. Grayson Palmgren would then be walked and would get to third base before three straight strikeouts ended the inning.
After a groundout to start the third inning, CNB would get four runners on base, with Brady LaBarge scoring the lone run for the inning. CNB would give F&A a three-up-three-down bottom of the inning to win by run rule.
Daniel Kemling, LaBarge, Kasey Pearson, Keith Day and Zach Stovall each scored three runs for CNB, with every batter making it to base at least once.
Shepard and Brooks scored the two runs for F&A, with Davis and Palmgren each getting walked.
In a makeup game from earlier in the season, CNB went on the road last Thursday and fell to Waterville 14-4.
Scoring first in the top of the first inning, CNB was able to get one run early, Daniel Kemling stealing home, with Brady LaBarge and Kasey Pearson in scoring position and Zach Stovall on first, but then left the bases loaded after the third out.
Valley Heights’s offense came out swinging, bringing in four runs to take a 4-1 lead.
Colton McWhorter kept momentum for CNB in the second, picking up a leadoff double and stealing third before being brought home by Kemling. Peyton Ryals subsequently brought Kremlin to home afterward.
The Yellowjackets exploded for nine runs in the second inning to make it a 13-3 game with all the pressure on CNB.
Seth Lacy was the only one for CNB to get on base with a single—he stole second before getting picked off. Waterville would bring in one more run in the bottom of the third to try and force the run rule.
Kemling got a double before stealing third and would be brought in by Pearson on a triple, but would be left on third as Waterville won 14-4.
Kemling had three runs scored on three hits with an RBI. McWhorter scored the other run, with one hit.
Facing off on the road at Clifton-Clyde in the final makeup game of the season, CNB fell to the Eagles 10-9, with the Eagles picking up a walk-off win in the seventh inning.
CNB got two baserunners to open the game, with Pearson and Ryals getting on base, before Clifton-Clyde cut Pearson off from a score.
The Eagles jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the first, with Isiah Jackson, Brennan Zahm, Brayden Burnett, Cooper Girard, Jacob Clairmont and Adam Jarvis all crossing home plate.
CNB got on the board in the third, bringing in three runs with Kemling, LaBarge and Pearson all scoring—Nash Franz brought in LaBarge and Pearson. Clifton-Clyde neutralized CNB with three runs of their own, with Jace Ynesta, James Robinson and Jackson scoring to keep it a six-run game.
CNB cut into the lead by scoring two runs in the fourth from Lacy and McWhorter, while keeping the Eagles off the board. After a scoreless fifth, CNB scored one run from LaBarge in the sixth to make it a 9-6 game.
CNB rallied in the seventh, with Lacy, McWhorter and Kemling walking to first base. LaBarge brought in Lacy, while Pearson walked, which caused McWhorter to score. Ryals brought in Kemling with a single to tie the game 9-9.
Jackson was the hero for the Eagles after Easton Knoettgen singled and was able to score from first as Jackson hit a deep ball to center field that allowed Knoettgen to score the winning run and take the 10-9 victory.
McWhorter led for CNB with three runs scored on one hit and two walks, Kemiling and Lacy each had two runs on a combined three hits and two walks.
Jackson led for the Eagles with two runs scored on four hits with two RBIs. Girard had one run scored on four hits, with Robinson scoring one run on two hits.
Hosting Belleville (at Belleville) to end the regular season, the Clifton-Clyde Eagles K-18 team defeated the Raptors 12-1 on June 24.
The Eagles blew the game open in the first inning, after an error that put the Raptors’ leadoff on base, Emitt Tiemeyer and the defense got two strikeouts and a fly-out ended the top of the first. The Eagle bats brought in 11 runs in the first inning to take an 11-0 lead.
The Eagles tacked on another run in the second, with Knoettgen scoring after getting on base with a double. Ynestato brought in Knotettgen to score and push the lead to 12.
Belleville scored their lone run in the top of the fourth after a Raptor stole home, before out number three ended the game.
