Girls’ wrestling team picks up 14 wins in Osborne, falls to Chapman in NCKL dual

OSBORNE — Participating in the Osborne Girls Invitational, the Concordia High School girls’ wrestling team picked up 14 wins in the 14-team tournament last Saturday.

Taygnn LeDuc went 1-4 on the day and placed fourth, winning her first match by major decision, 9-1, over Caydence Ewing of Phillipsburg, before losing by fall to Rylin Johnson of Minneapolis (number six in 3-2-1A), Callie Loesch of Hoisington, and Estefani Contreras-Munoz of Beloit, before receiving a bye to end the day.

Tierney Breault went 0-2, losing her first match of the day to Jocelyn Leanna of Phillipsburg by fall, and Presleann Kerr of Red Cloud/Blue Hill (Ne.), before having two byes to end the day.

Harlin Bannister went 2-3 on the day and placed fourth. Losing her first match of the day to Annabelle Gonzalez of Hoisington, before picking up back-to-back wins over Abigail Rigney of Osborne and Aerianna Gruber of Phillipsburg, before dropping two straight versus Mya Trevino of Sylvan-Lucas/Russell and Andrea Gonzalez of Hoisington.

Bridgette Blochlinger went 4-1 and placed fifth. She won her first two matches over Maddie Kolas and Annika Hinz of Hoisington, both by fall. Amiyah Sharp of Minneapolis flawed the record by pinning Blochlinger in 4:23, before Blochlinger picked up two more wins, defeating Leila Stone of Russell by pin, and a rematch with Hinz saw Blochlinger win by decision, 15-10, to pick up fifth place.

Gabi Lange went 2-3 and placed fourth. She picked up two wins to start, both by fall, over Lyli Noah of Beloit in 40 seconds, and Kamyla Mendoza of Holcomb in 20 seconds. She proceeded to drop three straight matches to McKenzie Simon of Holcomb, Kinsey Zorn of Sylvan-Lucas/Russell (number one ranked 3-2-1A 135 lb.), and Cheyenne Knoll of Osborne in the third-place match.

Jezia Hernandez went 1-4 on the day, winning in round one by fall over Desiree Cleveland of Red Cloud/Blue Hill, before dropping four straight. In round two she faced off against teammate Jordi Jones, losing by fall. She then lost to Johnna Ebner of Phillipsburg (number six in 3-2-1A), Teagan Maxwell of Smith Center, and Cleveland in a rematch for seventh place.

Jordi Jones went 2-1 on the day, picking up a win in round two over teammate Jezia Hernandez, before falling to Cleveland of Red Cloud/Blue Hill. After having two byes, Jones won by fall over Jasira Nieto of Holcomb.

Isabelle Alexander went 0-2 on the day and earned third place. After losing the first match by decision to Isabelle Epley of Phillipsburg, and after three straight byes, dropped her second match of the day to Nevaeh Graves of Hoisington, number three in 3-2-1A 170 lb.

Harley Weathersbee went 0-2 on the day, placing third. Dropping the first match of the day to Abigail Redden, Holcomb, before having back-to-back byes, before dropping a round-four match to Haylee Holinde of Hoisington before receiving a bye in round five to end the day.

Concordia will travel to Manhattan with the JV team for the Manhattan Invitational Friday, January 31, with a start time of 4 p.m.

Traveling for a league dual in Chapman, the Concordia girls’ wrestling team fell to the Fighting Irish, 36 team points to 22.

Taygnn LeDuc won by major decision, 11-3, over Amara Wright.

Tierney Breault lost by fall to Cambree Obermeyer in 1:23.

Harlin Bannister won by forfeit.

Bridgett Blochlinger lost by fall to Alyssa Calovich in 1:16.

Gabi Lange won by forfeit.

Ruby Generuex lost by fall to Taya Rowley in 3:12.

Jezia Hernandez lost by fall to Montana Kayl in 3:02.

Isabelle Alexander lost by fall to Faith Enger in 1:25.

Harley Weathersbee won by forfeit.
