Posted

ANDALE — Traveling south for the first round of substate, the Concordia high school girls basketball team faced off with Andale, with the Indians ending their season with a 52-35 loss.

A defensive battle would take place in the first quarter, with the Panthers getting on the board first thanks to a Jaylin Roush inbound play. The Panthers kept the Indians off the board until a three-ball with 3:18 remaining to put the game 4-3. Roush would score six straight points for the Panthers and would lead the panthers to an 8-3 lead, before the Indians hit two deep balls to take the lead 9-8 after one quarter.

All of the Panthers’ points were inside the arc, and all of Andale’s were behind the arc.

The Indians would score their first points inside the arc to open the second quarter with an and-one layup to push the lead to four, and the offense would take off in the second quarter. The Indians would outscore the Panthers 22-9 in the second quarter, and would enter the locker room with a 31-17 lead.

Things would level out in the second half. The Panthers took the lead back down to single-digits with a 7-3 run to open the third quarter. Andale would do their best to keep their cushion, hitting a three to rebuild the doubt-digit lead. An and-one by Andale would bring the lead up to 15, but two three-pointers by Rylie Jessup would keep the game in striking distance. The Panthers entered the fourth quarter down 43-32.

The fourth quarter would not be kind to the Panthers, the Indians had the clock on their side and the Panthers couldn’t hit enough shots to put a dent into the lead. The Indians held the Panthers to only three points for the quarter, and would add nine insurance points on their way to advancing in the postseason, ending the Panthers season with a 52-35 defeat.

The Panthers end the season 5-16.

Roush had 14 points, two rebounds, three steals, and two blocks.

Charlize Cash had six points, six rebounds, five assists, and five steals.

Kinsleigh Bethune had six points and two steals.

Jessup had six points, four assists, and two steals.

“There was a lot of ups and downs (this season),” said head coach Trey Kuhlman on the season. “I thought we really came out against Beloit, Brough physicality and kind of let it slide in the fourth quarter. It was a long year, eight of our 21 games were against ranked opponents. We have a bright future ahead of us, we just have to put that time in.”
