Nathan Edson DAR Good Citizen recipients

Posted

Nathan Edson Chapter DAR, honored the 2026 Good Citizens at their annual tea March 8, 2026 in Clyde, Kansas. The chapter honors a Senior every year from each of the area schools.  Students are chosen by their counselors for showing qualities of Dependability, Service, Leadership and Patriotism. This program was started by The Daughters of the American Revolution in 1934 and has evolved over the years into the program we have today.

Once selected as the school's representative, the student can choose to enter the scholarship portion of the program, which includes personal references, transcripts, and a timed essay. Each student nationwide is given the same essay topic.  Once completed the information is sent to an independent panel outside of DAR and judged. The winning essay for each chapter is then sent on to state competition.

The Good Citizens for 2026 are, Calyn Baker, Clifton/Clyde High School, daughter of Lewis and Kristen Baker; Baylen Arnold, Concordia Senior High School, daughter of Penny Arnold and Miller Coffman, Clay Center Community High School, son of David and Darla Coffman.

All three students participated in the essay contest. This year’s winning essay was submitted by Calyn Baker of Clifton/Clyde High School. Her essay has been sent for participation at the state level.

Each student receives a certificate signed by the National and State Regent, a Good Citizens pin and a monetary award. The students this year have the added honor of being chosen Good Citizens during America’s 250th birthday.
