CHAPMAN — Coming off of a disappointing performance at the Colby Black and Orange tournament, the Concordia High School boys’ basketball team traveled to Chapman and delivered a 78-23 beatdown to the Fighting Irish.

The 55-point win is the largest victory point spread this season, surpassing the 40-point spread in the game against Smoky Valley, and only three points from their 58-point win against Pike Valley in February 2022, a feat that’s stood for over almost two decades.

Establishing the three ball early with four straight from behind the arc to start the game, the Panthers took a double-digit lead just four minutes into the game and never looked back. The Panthers’ defense held Chapman scoreless for over four minutes, with Chapman finally scoring at the free throw line. After one quarter of play the Panthers led 21-7.

The Panthers’ hot offense carried over into the second quarter, going on an 16-3 run and building a 27-point lead. The Concordia game plan was being executed to perfection, forcing turnovers and converting Irish mistakes to Panther points, entering halftime with a 41-11 lead, holding Chapman to only four points in the quarter.

After exchanging two baskets each, the Panthers pulled away even more, scoring 20 straight unanswered points to take a resounding 65-15 lead. The Panthers concluded the spectacular quarter with a 72-17 lead, outscoring the Irish 31-8 for the quarter.

Getting the second and third units involved, the Panthers matched the Irish scoring for the quarter, with each team scoring six points, as the Panthers concluded the night with a 78-23 win.

The Panthers will travel to Clay Center to take on the number nine ranked Tigers. Competition starts at 4:30 p.m.
