Sweeping the season series in a commanding fashion, the Concordia High School boys’ basketball team dominated Chapman for a 78-31 home victory last Tuesday.
The Panthers won both games by a combined score of 156-54.
From the opening tip, the Panthers came out with one goal in mind: to dominate. After the Irish hit a three 29 seconds into the game, they would be held scoreless for the rest of the quarter. The Panthers’ strong defense and sound offense put them up early and a 22-0 run to close the quarter gave them a 24-3 lead.
Chapman was able to score three quick baskets to start the second quarter and their defense would force the Panthers into several misses close to the basket. Multiple times in the quarter did the Panthers find themselves with second and third chances in a possession, with Luke Donovan and Chance Parker working tirelessly on the glass. The Panthers were able to recover and finish the half with a 42-15 lead.
Exchanging baskets to start the third quarter, the Panthers would start to put the game on ice. The Panthers outscored the Irish 15-4 in the final four minutes, capped off by a Kale Schroeder three-ball at the buzzer to take a 67-25 point lead entering the fourth quarter.
The reserves got their moment to shine in the fourth quarter, even outscoring the Irish 11-6 for the quarter. Eleven of the 12 varsity members ended up scoring in the contest. In the second half, Brandon Vignery, Grayson Farha, and Schroeder all scored. The usual backups, like Baylor Knox and Karson Lister, also chipped in for a final score of 78-31, and Concordia’s fourth 20-plus-point victory.
