T-Bird basketball ends with 100-87 loss to #14 Barton

GREAT BEND — The Thunderbird men’s basketball season ended in the second round of the Region VI tournament after Cloud suffered its sixth straight loss to #14 Barton with a 100-87 defeat.

Barton would develop a cushion early in the first half, holding at least a two-possession lead from 17:11 till 9:25 remaining when the T-Birds got the lead down to three. Barton would then hold a double-digit lead for the final five minutes of the half, going into halftime with a 54-40 lead.

Only four T-Birds scored in the first half, with Syncere Burnette leading the T-Birds with 16 first-half points.

Cloud would get the lead down to seven 2 minutes and 30 seconds into the half. Barton would do its best to keep the T-Birds at bay, and the T-birds would get the lead back down to six with 12:37 and 6:15 remaining in the game, before the Cougars pushed their lead up to as high as 16. Barton would outlast the T-Birds 100-87.

Burnette had a season-high 31 points, with five rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

Elidjah Savane had 20 points, 13 rebounds, three assists, a block, and a steal.

Dejuan Graise had 12 points.

On the season: Savane led in points with 16.8 points per game, rebounds with 8.7 per game, blocks with 58, and second in steals with 1.3 steals per game.

Burnette was second in points with 12.3 points per game, tied for first in assists with 94 or three per game, and led in steals per game with 1.6 steals per game.

Keyon Garrett-Miller was third on points per game with 11.4, tied for first in assists with three per game, and third in steals per game with 1.1.
