GRIMES, IOWA — Traveling to Iowa for the most northern trip of the season, the Cloud County Community College wrestling team picked up 13 wins in the Grand View Open tournament.
Gael Garcia, 125 pounds, went 1-2. After falling in the first match by tech fall, Garcia won by decision 10-9, before ending his day with a loss by fall in round two of the consolation bracket.
Dakota Gibson, 141 pounds, went 0-2 with an injury default and forfeit.
Drew Sterrett, 141 pounds, went 3-2. After picking up a win by fall in just 20 seconds and an 11-8 sudden victory in round two, Sterrett lost his first match by major decision. Bouncing back with a win by fall in 41 seconds, he then fell by tech fall to end the day.
Jacob Vasquez, 165 pounds, went 1-2. After falling by major decision in his first match and receiving a bye, Vasquez picked up a win by decision 6-1, before ending the day with a forfeit loss.
Micah Cauthers, 174 pounds, went 0-2 with an injury default and medical forfeit.
Dionisio Holguin, 197 pounds, went 1-2. After receiving a bye in round one, Dionisio won by tech fall 20-4 before two straight losses; the second one by medical forfeit ended his day.
David Holguin, 197 pounds, went 0-2. After a first-round bye, David fell in round two in a 5-4 decision. After receiving another bye, he lost by fall to end his day.
Tyler Pankey, 197 pounds, went 5-3 and finished in 6th place. Starting with three straight wins, two by fall and one by 1-0 decision, he suffered his first loss of the day by tech fall. Bouncing back with two straight wins by fall, he ended his day with a forfeit and a medical forfeit.
Brayden Hill, 285 pounds, went 2-2. After a first-round bye, Hill picked up two straight wins by fall, before falling by decision 4-0, then major decision, then ending his day with a 5-1 decision loss.
