Tennis team hosts Concordia Invite quadrangular

Hosting Chapman, Phillipsburg and Sacred Heart in the lone home varsity event of the season, the Concordia High School boys tennis team showed off for the home crowd with 13 overall wins.

Evan Bombardier, playing number one singles, went 2-1 and earned a silver medal. In match one, Bombardier lost 6-2, before winning match two 5-5 (5), and closing out with a 6-1 win.

Hunter Nielander in number two singles went 2-2 on the day and earned a bronze medal. In match one, Nielander lost 6-1, before winning two straight, 6-1 and 6-4, before falling in the final match of the day, 6-1.

The duo of Carter Pickel and Noah Wood in number one doubles earned a silver medal with a 3-1 record. In match one, the duo lost 6-2, before winning three straight, 6-2, 6-3, and 6-1, to close the day.

In number two doubles, the team of Eli Henderson and Jagger Johnson earned a silver medal with a 3-1 record. Falling in match one 6-1, the duo picked up three straight wins, 6-3, 6-4, and 6-0.

The Panthers also fielded two additional doubles teams to play 10 total players instead of the usual six.

In number one doubles for Concordia Black, the team of Carter Riley and Ayden Nutsch finished third with a 1-3 record. Falling in game one 6-2, the duo picked up a 5-5 (4) victory before falling 6-0 and 6-3.

In number two doubles, the duo of Dakota Valcoure and Brody Johnson went 2-2 and finished in third. Dropping the first match 6-3, the duo got a 6-0 sweep in match two, fell in match three, 6-3, and ended the day with a 6-2 win.

Opening the season at NCKL rival Clay Center for a quadrangular, the Panthers finished second overall.

Bombardier finished in second place in number one singles with a 2-1 record. After falling in match one 6-1, he picked up a pair of wins, 6-3 and 6-2, to secure a silver medal.

Nielander finished in third with a 1-2 record. He lost the first two matches 6-0 and 6-5, before picking up a 6-0 sweep to earn a bronze medal.

In number one doubles, the team of Pickel and Wood went 0-3 on the day.

In number two doubles, the duo of Henderson and Johnson earned a silver medal with a 2-1 record. Dropping their first match of the day, 6-0, the duo closed strong with two straight wins, 6-0 and 6-3.
