CISCO, TX — Kicking off the regular season with a trip to the Lone Star State for the Wrangler Ranger Round Up tournament in Ranger and Cisco, Texas, the Thunderbird volleyball squad returned home with a 1-4 record.
In the first match on Friday, the T-Birds lost to Panola College 0-3. Losing the first set 25-12, the T-Birds had a competitive set two, but still fell 25-22, before ending the match with a 25-12 set three loss. The T-Birds had more errors (27) than kills (18). Zoey Studbeck led in kills with seven, Addyson Ogle led in aces with three, tied in blocks with two with Tori Sanders and assists with 15.
In the second match of the day, the T-Birds’ struggles continued with a 0-3 loss to Ranger College. The T-birds fell 25-12, 25-15 and 25-12 to end the day. Grace Rowland led in kills (10) and digs (seven), with Ogle adding 21 assists in the match.
On Saturday, the T-birds got their first win of the season with a 3-1 win over Dallas College Mountain View. After falling in set one 25-22, the T-Birds pulled off three straight set wins, 25-16, 25-15, and 25-23. Rowland led in kills with 14, Ylvie Schmid led with four aces and 31 assists, Julieann Sandoval led with five blocks and Beatrice Giusti had 11 digs.
Closing out the tournament against the number 20-ranked Blinn College, the T-Birds fell 0-3. CCCC fell 25-19, 25-14 and 25-9. Rowland led in kills with seven, Elizabeth Schuster led in blocks with five and Schmid led in assists with 11 and digs with six.
