Unified School District 333 met for its regular scheduled board meeting on Sept 8 at 6 p.m.
Present were President Brad Berk, Vice President Mike Cleveland and members John Culley, Amber Lambertz, Jenny Parker, Nancy Owen and Lindsay Metcalf.
It began with the Revenue Neutral Rate hearing for the 2025-2026 school year. The meeting opened with guest comments. Hearing none, the meeting closed at 6:05 with the roll call vote on Resolution 25-10 to approve the rate.
At 6:06, the floor was opened for public comments on the 2025-2026 school year’s budget. At 6:10, the meeting closed with no guest comments.
At 6:10, the regularly scheduled school board meeting began.
In action items, the board heard a presentation introducing the student organization for Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA), with the hope of adding a Student Activity fund for the Concordia High School chapter.
The board voted unanimously to approve the official addition of a HOSA chapter’s request to become a formal club.
The board voted unanimously to approve the 2025-2026 budget and maintained the Local Option Budget (LOB) rate at 33 percent. The LOB provides a percentage rate of general funds used and is adjusted from the state-set rate.
The LOB allows school districts some flexibility in maintaining services and avoiding cuts.
The board heard reports about the planned facilities updates.
The North parking lot of the high school is nearly completed, and Hood’s will be installing light poles on Sept 17. The paving and striping part of the work is already complete.
The running of new fiber optic cable was completed, and the new passenger vans are scheduled for delivery by the end of Sept.
Bids and estimates are currently underway for the roofing projects at both the elementary school and the high school, slated to potentially begin in the winter of 2025 and continuing through the summer of 2026 in three phases.
Also pending are estimates for the repair or replacement of the cupola at the high school.
The board heard an update on curriculum detailing the updates to current curriculum plans.
In Foundation news, the board heard a report about the Hall of Fame in the high school.
It was also announced that the digital kiosk has been sponsored by the family of William “Bill” Dotson from the CHS class of 1958, and the State and American mile run record holder.
The board approved the hiring of Shelby Parker, Para for Concordia Junior-Senior High School (CJSHS); Kelly Kimerer, substitute teacher and Para, and Karen Barrett, CAP. The board also accepted the resignations for Melissa Sanchez, Parents as Teachers Parent Educator; Kiara Mikkelsen, substitute para; Gene Rundus, head coach of boys’ golf, and Dustin Bender, head coach of baseball.
The board meets once a month on the second Monday of every month at the board office and is open to the public.
